Photograph Notes: Taken in April 1969, this photo shows 287 (LAK 287G) a 1968 Leyland Atlantean bus with Metro-Cammell 74-seater bodywork in Thornton Road on route 5 between Holme Wood and Allerton via the City Centre, Four Lane Ends and Bell Dean Road. It was operated by Bradford City Transport from its former Bowling Depot in Foundry Lane off Wakefield Road. The building behind it was the former Gaumont Cinema, which was later renamed the Odeon Cinema. It closed in July 2000, and its future is uncertain. To the left of the photo, a trolleybus can be seen whilst behind it is the Unitarian Church which was demolished later in 1969. Trolleybus wiring, in this photo was dismantled in 1972 after the closure of the trolleybus system in March that year. First West Yorkshire now operate bus services in Bradford from its depot in Bowling Back Lane off Wakefield Road.
