This is a pair of General Radio 1409-X 0.5µF Standard Capacitors. They are high stability mica capacitors for use in two or three-terminal reference or working standards in the laboratory. Accuracy is certified better than ±0.05% of the nominal capacitance value (two-terminal) marked on the case. Dissipation factor is less than 0.0003 at 1kHz and 23ºC. Excellent long term stability. Typical capacitors, observed over decades, have shown random fluctuations of less than + 0.01% in  measured capacitance with no evidence of systemic drift.

By connecting these two capacitors in parallel with the included banana plugs, a reference quality 1.0 Mfd capacitance standard can be obtained at a reasonable cost.
