This antique vessel features a hand-carved coconut shell housed in an ornate bronze framework. The bronze "cage" is embellished with a traditional scrollwork motif filled with a natural brown resinous material. A distinct burn mark is present at the interior base of the coconut shell, suggesting the vessel may have historically functioned as an incense burner or ceremonial lamp base.

The use of natural resin (lac) in place of glass enamel and the inclusion of an organic shell reflect the material culture of 19th-century Islamic ethnographic art. Because the inlay is a natural resin, it remains sensitive to environmental moisture. The piece is currently in two parts, with the interior shell resting within but detached from the bronze housing.

Condition: Antique. The hand-carved coconut shell shows a visible burn mark at the interior base, likely from historical ritual use. The shell is currently detached from the bronze frame. The decorative inlay is a natural brown resin (lac), which is moisture-sensitive and will soften if exposed to water. There are scattered areas of missing resin inlay throughout the bronze scrollwork.
