On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) scarce antique book "The Royal Palace Of Linlithgow, Illustrated." by James Collie Architect. Published in London: J. Weale; Edinburgh, Adam And Charles Black ; J. Smith and Son Glasgow. 1847.

Tinted lithographed title & 8 lithographed plates on Indian paper, mounted. 8 wood-engraved text illus. original gilt-stamped cloth. Scarce. James Collie was born in Aberdeen c.1810, the son of John Collie, 'general merchant', and Charlotte Lunan. By the early 1830s he had set up in practice in Glasgow, surveying Glasgow Cathedral and publishing 'An Historical Account of the Cathedral of Glasgow' (London, 1835), a publication which appears to have brought him an Honorary Fellowship of the London society named the 'Freemasons of the Church'.  A similar folio volume, 'The Royal Palace of Linlithgow' was published in 1847.

DATE PRINTED: 1847. Undated but the date suggested by various online resources (others suggest a slightly earlier date). 

SIZE: folio 28 x 38.5 cm. vi pp + 32 pp + 8 full page illustrations and a further full page view on the title page.

CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian paper is subject to some normal ageing due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated. Complete.  Contemporary binding - shaken but solid with some wear to spine. Not ex-library and no stamps. Old owners bookplate on inside cover.
