This is a rare pair of antique 19th Century Silver birth stork scissors with a swaddled baby infant in the body of the stork. The Silver birth stork scissors, for a birth announcement and to cut the umbilical cord. 19th century. The scissors were placed on the chimney mantle according to tradition. So if the lady of the house was expecting, then everyone could see. There is also a swaddled baby in the belly of the stork. These scissors were also used to cut the umbilical cord after birth. The hallmark is on the ring of the scissors and these are marked 800 for 800 silver with a makers mark and the French Swan silver mark. The stork can stand up on its leg.
