This is a truly charming original painting on thick paper, done about 1950.  It is signed J.O. Tobuk and was acquired by the estate directly from that artist. 

The medium appears to be mixed with a thickly applied water color and oil or acrylic and depicts an Alaskan Native dance exhibition.  

Note the bird carcass sitting on the bench by one of the drummers, as if he stopped by from the hunt to participate in this event. The colors are very rich and show no evidence of fading.  There are a few edge tears in the paper along the bottom and adjacent to left side window.  

This piece has been around for years without protection or framing.  We recently had it framed and the edge damage stabilized as seen in the photos. All of the framing materials, including the glass, matte and backing are all high quality archival materials. The picture (excluding the frame) is 18 1/4 inches wide and 11 inches high.  Including the frame, it is 24 inches wide and 17 inches wide. 

Alaskan Native folkart is among the most whimsical found. There is always an element of humor and joy no matter the subject matter.  This piece is no exception. It just feels good to look at it!
