Pair of Vintage Miyaku Nippon Vases - Hand Painted Landscapes (As Is).
Marked NIPPON, these vases were made in Japan at the turn of the 20th century. Imported to the United States prior to 1921, NIPPON-marked vases are considered to be certified antiques. These lovely antique Nippon porcelain vases feature a hand painted scenic design and moriage decor. Beginning in 1880, Japanese ceramic manufactures began using the moriage technique on pieces made for export to the US. It was a favorite decorative motif during the Nippon period (1890 - 1921). Japanese manufacturers continued to use the technique until the 1960s. The front design is a beautiful scenic landscape in wonderful muted shades. The reverse side features two graceful trees
It is marked with a backstamp indicating that the piece is Miyaku Nippon Hand Painted.
One vase is in good antique condition. The second has damage on the inside of the rim. If one looks very closely, there is also a small crack near one of the handles. Please review the photos carefully. Both vases are being sold so they can be displayed as a pair. However, the pricing reflects that one is damaged. Given the age of these vases, we thought it better to keep them together as a pair.
Simply stated: They are beautiful. They would look marvelous on a mantel or in a bookcase. But one is damaged. If perfect, would be priced much higher.
