COLDSTREAM FARM mini poster from THE HORSE REVIEW: XMAS 1916 rear cover only

COLDSTREAM FARM mini poster from THE HORSE REVIEW: XMAS 1916 rear cover only

This is a magazine rear cover print.    (A1)

This is for what amounts to a mini poster for the famous Lexington, Kentucky, horse farm Coldstream Farm.  On the reverse is a full page ad for a horse racing book.

The year following the death of Mr McGrath, McGrathiana was sold at auction to Milton Young, another noted horse breeder and turf man. The farm changed hands several more times before it was purchased by C. B. Shaffer. Shaffer also bought a neighboring stud farm, Coldstream. He combined all of the land into one operation under the Coldstream Farm name in 1915.  Coldstream Farm now belongs to the University of Kentucky and is part of its agricultural school.

McGrathiana's greatest claim to fame was having the first Kentucky Derby winner, Aristides.

Please note that this ad was published in the Christmas, 1916, issue of The Horse Review magazine.  This was just the year following its purchase by Shaffer in 1915.

Kentucky Historical marker #166 was originally dedicated in 1962.  The marker reads:

"Coldstream Farm
Famous Kentucky horse farm. Known earlier as McGrathiana. The home of Aristides, the first winner of the Kentucky Derby."

This is for the cover only.  I don't know what happened to the rest of the magazine.

This item is in very good to fine condition with no serious flaws or defects.  There are edge tears and chips which do not affect the print area.  There is a touch of age toning around the edges of the cover.

The print measures 10 1/2 by 15 inches.  Just the Santa print area measures 8 1/2 by 8 3/8 inches.
