The Monkees were an American pop rock band formed in Los Angles 1966, comprising of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Davy Jones. They were conceived in 1965 as a fictional band for the sitcom The Monkees by the television producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider. Music credited to the Monkees appeared in the sitcom, which aired from 1966-1968, and was released on LP.
The Monkees self titled album is their debut album and was released in 1966 by Colgems Records in the US and RCA Victor in the rest of the world. It was the first of four consecutive US number one albums for the group and also topped the UK chart in 1967. The song Last Train To Clarksville was released as a single shortly before the release of the album and was the only hit single from the album. This album also includes the theme song from the sitcom The Monkees.
