Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is grown in freshwater. It is very high in protein (a complete protein with all essential amino acids), as well as antioxidants, iron, folic acid, vitamins and many other minerals.

Directions:

A suggested serving is around 1/2 teaspoon for the first week. Then increase this to a full teaspoon thereafter. Dissolve in fruit juice or add to a smoothie.

In order to preserve its nutritional value, spirulina is best consumed in recipes where little or no heat is required. For example, it can be stirred into shakes and into porridge after cooking, or incorporated into flapjacks, raw brownies or raw energy balls.
