Description
Avers: In the upper section of the medal is written "GERMAN EXHIBITION". "LONDON 1891" is indented underneath. A building extends over the entire width of the middle section. Under the stand line of the building is written "PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT." Two crossed laurel branches are located underneath. Under the laurel branches is "JOHN R. WHITLEY // FOUNDER & ORGANIZER // NATIONAL EXHIBITIONS IN LONDON."
Lapel: The lettering in the upper section reads: "I FEEL ENCOURAGED IN MY TASK WHEN I SEE THAT WISE // AND CAPABLE MEN SUCH AS ARE GATHERED HERE DO // JUSTICE TO THE EARNESTNESS AND HONESTY OF MY INTENTIONS." The inscription at the bottom reads: "MY AIM IS ABOVE ALL THE MAINTENANCE OF PEACE FOR // PEACE ALONE CAN GIVE THE CONFIDENCE WHICH IS NECESSARY // TO THE HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE, OF ART AND OF TRADE. GUILDHALL, JULY, 10.1891." These two lettering are separated by two stars.
In the center is a burst painting of Kaiser Wilhelm II looking to the left. In the left field, framed by two oak leaves, "WILHELM II" is written all around. In the right field you can read "DEUTSCHER KAISER". Wilhelm II wears a uniform, over the left shoulder is a coat, so that parts of the uniform are covered.
