They began play in the WHA as the New England Whalers in 1972. But two years later they became the toast of Connecticut having moved into the Hartford Civic Center. Before long they would bring the stars of the NHL into Connecticut's capital city. People like Gordie Howe and his two sons, Mark and Marty, Bobby "The Golden Jet" Hull, Johnny "Pie" McKenzie and later Mike Liut, Ron Francis, Kevin Dineen coached and managed by Emile Francis would wear the green and navy.  Here is the story from beginning to the end with the move to Carolina where the Whalers became the Hurricanes.
