On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique map "Walbrook Ward and Dowgate Ward with their Divisions into parishes according to a new survey." The ward of Walbrook contains two of the City's most notable landmarks: the Bank of England and the Mansion House. Dowgate, also referred to as Downgate and Downegate, is a small ward in the City of London, the historic and financial centre of London.  

An attractive map of the adjacent wards of Walbrook and Dowgate Wards with vignettes of the arms of Slingsby Bethell, the arms of Sir Richard Gleen Knt., and the Parish Church of St. Stephen in Walbrook, and the Parish Church of St. Michael Royal College Hill. 

DATE PRINTED: 1755, dated on the print.

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 36.5 x 24 cm, 14.5 x 9.5 inches (medium) plus margins.

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Benjamin Cole (1697 - 1783).

PROVENANCE:  A plate published in William Maitlands "History of London", published in London, 1756 . Originally published in 1739 as "The history of London, from its foundation by the Romans.",  Maitland's History was reissued in 1756 and it is in this edition that the illustrations were much embellished and improved.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.
