This math activity set, with a St. Patrick's Day theme, and a focus on adding 3 numbers is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the materials for durability and so that the recording sheet could be used with a fine-tip dry erase marker and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so it could be reused! This set comes from a smoke free home.
I received this set at an after school, Title I workshop for teachers when I was teaching 1st grade. It consists of a recording sheet that measures 8.5" x 11" and 16 illustrated cards that measure 3.5" x 4.75". The recording sheet was originally just black and white, so I colored in the border and the image on it, with colored pencils, to make it more inviting to children.
The recording sheet has a yellow wavy border. There is a place for children to print their name up at the top. Below that are directions. In the bottom, right-hand corner is an image of a red-haired girl dressed in her St. Patrick's Day best. This page is set up with 16 numbered, empty boxes.
The cards are all bordered in green. They are numbered, in green, in the bottom left-hand corner. Every card has a set of 3 green balloons with an orange ribbon attached to the end of each. One balloon is green and white-striped. Another is dark green with green polka dots. And, the third is green with black swirls. Each balloon has a single or double-digit, bold, black number on it.
To set up this activity, the cards are mixed up and put, face down, in a draw pile. Children draw the card on top of the pile. They then find the box, on the recording sheet, that matches the green number in the corner of the card. Then, they write an addition equation in the corresponding box. Children continue until all of the cards have been used and the recording sheet has been completed.
This activity may be used by an individual child or by a pair of children. If used with a pair, children would simply take turns drawing cards and recording equations.
This set would make a wonderful addition to a 1st of 2nd grade classroom to be used during Math Centers around St. Patrick's Day! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
