This St. Patrick's Day, write-on/wipe-off, secret code/message flip booklet is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the sheets, so they could be used with a fine-tip dry erase marker, and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused! This item comes from a smoke free home.
I received this set at an after school, Title I workshop for teachers when I was teaching 1st grade. It consists of 11 sheets that measure 8.5" x 11". I punched holes through the pages and attached red, plastic "chicken rings" to make them into a flip booklet. There are 11 secret code sheets and 1 answer key. I did color in some of the symbols, in the codes, to give the pages a little extra color. I also added a yellow sticker dot to the upper, right-hand corner of each exercise sheet. I put a number on each yellow dot, with a black marker, as the answer key goes by page number, and the pages weren't originally numbered. There was a mistake on the answer key, which I remedied my using white correction tape, which I wrote on. Also, 1 exercise sheet accidentally did not have symbols underneath the lines. To fix this, I made several copies of the code key. I then cut out the needed symbols and glued them underneath the lines.
Each of the exercise pages has 2 sections. Up at the top, "Crack the Code" is written. Underneath this are lines with symbols underneath them. The bottom portion of the page is labeled "Code Key". Here, there are boxes with capital letters that have symbols after them. Each exercise page is illustrated with a different image or 2 which include the following: 2 standing mice (one in a green top hat with black band and yellow buckle who is holding a shamrock; one with a red nose who is wearing a green derby with a light green shamrock, a green bow tie with light green polka dots, and holding a green shamrock), a standing bear wearing a green top hat with dark green band and yellow buckle who is holding a shamrock and a sitting bear who is wearing a green top hat with black band and yellow buckle and a green shirt with a light green shamrock, a set of 3 gold coins and a leprechaun sitting in a field of clovers who is holding a lucky golden horseshoe, a black pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, a green smiling shamrock and a boy and girl leprechaun standing behind a black pot of gold in a field of clovers, 2 different size black pots of gold, a boy and girl leprechaun, a boy leprechaun holding a black pot of gold, a black pot of shamrocks, a ponytailed girl leprechaun holding a large shamrock, and a boy and girl leprechaun who are standing in a field of clover, next to a black pot of gold at the end of a clouded rainbow.
The answer key has the same image as the last one described above. The page numbers are listed with the answers after them.
This item could be used with either an individual child or a group of children. To be used with a group, the pages would simply need to be taken off of the ring and the answer key shared.
This item would make a wonderful addition to a 1st grade classroom to be used during Literacy Centers around St. Patrick's Day! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
