This primary-level activity set, with a heart-healthy theme is awesome!  It is brand new and in excellent condition!  I laminated all of the materials for durability and so that those that needed to written on could be used with a fine-tip dry erase marker and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused.  This set comes from a smoke free home.

I received this set at an elementary school Science inservice for teachers.  It consists of 8 different activities.  There are 8 sheets that measure 8.5" x 11", 4 word cards that measure 2.25" x 1.875", a page that measures 9.25" x 8.5", and 5 letter squares that measure .75" x .75".  Images were colored, with colored pencils, on some sheets.  Red heart stickers were added to another, as the page was originally just black and white, and I wanted to give it a little color.  I also outlined letters, with a fine-tip marker, on a set of word cards.  Both the letter squares and word cards come in tiny ziploc bags for organizational purposes.

There are 2 word searches in this packet.  One of the sheets is titled "Heart Word Search" and has a red heart sticker on each side of the title.  Here children have to find 11 science words that have to do with the human heart.

The other word search is titled "Chef Solus Valentine's Day Healthy Heart Word Search Puzzle!".  It has a pink board, that is bordered in red, and 15 red words to find.  These words have more to do with nutrition and heart health than the anatomy of the heart.  This sheet is illustrated with a smiling red heart character that is seen in 3 corners of the word search board.  One image has him wearing a black top hat, carrying a black cane, and walking.  Next to him is a garden of red roses.  Another image has him holding an "I love U" card with a picture of a red heart for the word love.  This character is standing next to a garden or red tulips.  And, there is one more image of the heart character standing with a pink flower in one hand and the other hand on his chest In the other corner of the word search board is a bunch of daisies growing in the grass.

There is another activity titled "Valentine's Day Healthy Heart Maze" in red.  Below the title, children are reminded that healthy foods and daily exercise keep hearts strong.  Then, there are directions.  This page is illustrated with a heart-shaped maze that has been turned into a character with red legs and flexing arms with muscles.  Boys are hanging out on top of the heart, sitting on his muscles and legs, and peeking out and waving from behind him.  Chef Solus is standing off to one side, with his arms full of healthy fruits and vegetables.  Off to the other side of the heart character, 3 girls have laid down a blanket.  They have put out a nice healthy spread of things to eat and something to drink.  Confetti is covering the maze on this page to celebrate heart-healthy eating!  Children are shown where to enter and exit the maze with red arrows.  They have to help Chef Solus get his armful of healthy foods over to the picnic area.

Another sheet in this set is titled "Crossword Puzzles" in red capital letters.  This was originally a cut and glue worksheet.  As I wanted to be able to reuse it, I laminated it and cut out the pieces.  This page is illustrated with red and pink hearts of different sizes.  It has 3 numbered crossword puzzles on it.  Each crossword puzzle has 5 squares and will be made up of only 2 words.  There are 2-step directions at the bottom of the page.  Only the second direction will be used, as the white squares with pink capital letters, outlined in red, have already been cut out.  To use this activity, children lay out the letter squares next to the "board".  They then attempt to solve each crossword puzzle by using the 5 letters in "heart" to make 2 words that will fit the configuration of the puzzle.  As the "board" is laminated, I would suggest that children also be asked to record the words, by writing the letters in the boxes, with a fine-tip dry erase marker.  Once a puzzle has been solved and children have recorded the letters in the squares, they can move on to the next puzzle.

There are 2 similar sheets in this set that are matching exercises One is titled "Foods That Make Your Heart Happy and Healthy", and the other is titled "Activities That Make Your Heart Strong and Healthy".  Under each title, a general statement is made either about good and bad foods or good and bad activities for the heart.  Then, directions are given.  Part of the directions ask children to color the hearts, but I already colored them in, as these pages were originally just black and white, and I wanted to make them more inviting.  These sheets are illustrated with both a smiling red and maroon heart character (one jogging and another wearing a black top hat, holding a brown cane, and walking) and another with a thermometer in his mouth that is wiping sweat off of his forehead.  On these pages, children have to read the list of words/phrases between the 2 heart characters.  On one page, they have to read each word/phrase that has to do with a particular activity and draw a line to either the energetic heart of the tired heart.  On the other, children have to read each word/phrase that deals with a particular food and draw a line to either the happy heart of the sad/sick heart.  The first word/character match has been made on each page, so children have an example.

Another colorful exercise is simply titled "The Heart" in bold black text.  This activity has a "board", 4 word cards, and an answer key.  The "board" has an image of the human heart, within a house, in the colors of red, blue, orange, magenta, and white.  The house is divided into 4 parts.  Each part has an empty box in it.  To use this set, the word cards are laid out around the "board".  Children then pick up one card at a time, read it, and place it in the proper box.  They then check their work with the answer key.  The answer key is very similar to the "board", except there are white words filled in where the empty boxes were

The last activity in this packet is titled "Heart Healthy Snack Attack" in red.  I would say that is is at a 3rd grade level.  This sheet deals with the solving of math word problems.  Under the title are directions, in purple.  This page has a orange, yellow, and white chart up at the top.  The column titles include "Food", "Amount", and "Calories".  A smiling red heart character, wearing blue shoes, is resting on the top of the chart.  Down in a bottom corner, a little girl is peeking out from behind the chart.  On the side of the chart, a smiling red heart character and Chef Solus are standing with one arm around each other's shoulder.  Below the chart are 5 numbered story problems in purple text.  The problems are illustrated, on the left, with pictures of children doing things that relate to the text and on the right, with foods that relate to the text.  Children read the story problems, use the information on the chart to solve them, and then record their answers on the blanks.  The following are the skills needed to solve the word problems: adding two 2-digit numbers without regrouping, adding 3 double-digit numbers without regrouping, adding a 3-digit and a 2-digit number with/without regrouping, adding two 3-digit numbers with/without regrouping, adding 3 triple-digit numbers with regrouping, division of a 2 or 3-digit number by a single digit number, and multiplying a 2 or 3-digit number by a single-digit number.  Some of the problems are multi-step.

This activity set would make a wonderful addition to a household with children in the primary grades to be used during the month of February, which is American Heart Month!  I am hoping to find it a good home.            T
