This analogies activity set, with a Valentine's Day theme, is awesome! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the sheets, so they could be used with a fine-tip dry erase marker and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused! This set comes from a smoke free home.
I received this set at an elementary school, Language Arts inservice for teachers. It consists of 5 sheets that measure 8.5" x 11". The exercises are for children in Grades 3-6. All of the sheets were simply black and white, so I colored in the images, with colored pencils, to make them more inviting to children.
There are 4 sheets that have relatively the same format. Each of these pages has a place for children to print their name up at the top. And, each sheet has either an image of a yellow and black bumblebee with a red or pink heart that says "Bee Mine" in capital letters or an image of a standing brown bear holding a large red or pink heart that says the same thing. These pages have a box at the top that has directions and a red or pink bank of words. Below that are 9-10 boxes with analogies to complete. The easiest of the 4 exercises has 9 analogies that use the words "is to" and "as". To complete these sheets, children read each analogy, find the answer in the word bank, and record the word on the blank that is provided. The other 3 pages simply use ":" between word pairs. At the bottom of each of these exercises, there is box that children can check once they have completed the page. This set of exercises does have some analogies that are the same on more than 1 page. But, I feel that these particular analogies are good review items for children.
The last sheet is titled "Cupid's Heart-to-Heart Analogies" in black text. This exercise also has a place for children to print their name at the top. Below the title are directions. This sheet is illustrated with an image of Cupid to the left of the directions. Under the directions are 15 numbered analogies, with words written in hearts, and ":" used between word pairs. The last heart has been left empty, with the exception of the first analogy, which has been completed for children. Underneath the analogies is a pink heart that says "Word Bank". To the left of that is a larger magenta heart, shot with 3 of Cupid's arrows and filled with words. To the right of the "Word Bank" heart is another large red heart, exactly like the magenta one but filled with different words. To complete this sheet, children read each analogy, find the answer in the word bank, and record the word in the empty heart. At the very bottom of this page is a "Bonus Box" with 4 blanks. Each word pair is again separated using ":". Children are asked to come up with an analogy of their own.
This multi-level set would make a wonderful addition to a household with children in grades 3-6 to be used around Valentine's Day! I am hoping to find it a good home.
