This is a letter by Wallace Edmonds Conkling

(1896-1979), a prominent American bishop of

the Episcopal Church. Conkling served as the

seventh bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of

Chicago from 1941 to 1953.

The signed program was for a Sunday morning
prayer and sermon. It is dated January 20, 1946.
The service was held at The Cathedral of the
Incarnation in Garden City, New York. Bishop
Conkling was a special guest at that service,
and the fourth page of the program includes
a biography of him (see photos).

This program was originally part of the collection
of a man named Clifford John Benfield (1924-2018),
who began collecting the autographs of members
of the Episcopal clergy when he was a choir boy.

(NOTE: I now own many of those autographs,
and will be listing them for sale on ebay soon.)

Unfolded, the program is about 11.5" by 9".
It is signed in ink at the bottom of the last page
by Bishop Wallace E. Conkling.

There is a small handwritten note at the top of
the last page, which reads "Dear (???): please
save this for Cliff's collection. Edward (?)"

(The question marks indic
ate words that I cannot
  make out with certainty.)

This program is in fair/good condition,
with creases, small tears, and other wear.
