The Squirrel Association of Northern Ireland was formed to introduce children of 4 and 5 years to Scouting. These are the proficiency badges that they could earn, under the 4 activities - Active, Caring, Learning and Friendly. Badges are now defunct, as the the squirrels are now officially under the umbrella of the UK Scout Association. The acorn badges were for 6 month and 12 month service, and the squirrel membership badge was awarded when the child gained membership. These badges are exclusive to Northern Ireland, and will disappear from circulation and become very collectable.
