  This wonderful wooden chess set is made from the best pieces of lime-tree

and it is perfectly finished by hand.

 ♔

 The hand crafted board doubles up as a box containing the pieces

 with the design carved into the wood. 

 ♙

 The dark squares are carefully stained to match the playing pieces and allow the natural

beauty of the wood grain to shine through. 

 ♜

 The dividing lines and number/letter references are near black. 

 ♝

 The lighter squares are left as pale natural wood and lacquered

 to provide the perfect finish.

 ♞

The Chessmen are  made from hornbeam wood,

 which is carved and finished by hand.

 The dark pieces are stained a similar colour to the dark squares on the board,

the lighter pieces are natural wood. 

 Again, the staining is done in a such  way as to show off the grain of the wood. 

 ♛

The pieces also have a lacquered finish.
