This pendant, depicting two entangled serpents eating their tails, is a variation of Ouroboros (from Ancient Greek οὐρά oura 'tail' plus -βορός -boros '-eating') — an ancient symbol of infinity. Ouroboros, apparently originating in Ancient Egypt, was known in Europe as a symbol in Gnosticism, Hermeticism and alchemy.  It is often interpreted as a symbol of eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
