Good condition large hard cover with beveled cream cloth boards. Exterior shows soiling to front boards and some tears to spine cloth. Gilded lettering presents exceptionally clear and bright, however, and boards remain square and spine unshaken. Foxing to uncut page ends, but page surfaces remain remarkably spotless and sharp. Some wrinkling at bottom, but pages turn neatly and have NO tears, creases, or cracks. Gutters slightly loose but have not been torn or separated. Decorative paste-downs with circa 1904 bookplate to front. Design is stunning and clear, with goldleaf base reflective and in-tact. A very scarce and sound edition of what's often considered to be an essential collection of literary criticism.
