This pendant, depicting a slain dragon with a cross, recreates the symbol worn by members of the superior degree of the Order of the Dragon. When the superior degree was created in addition to the existing order, the cross was added to the original version of the symbol that was still worn by the rest of the members.
The Order was created in 1408 by Sigismund von Luxembourg, who was then the King of Hungary. Many historical figures were members of the Order, including the Prince of Wallachia Vlad II Dracul (father of Vlad the Impaler, known today as Count Dracula).
