Barbier & Corneloup
Degué

A signed French art deco hanging fixture around 1930 in nickel plated bronze or solid brass by Barbier & Corneloup. A small nowadays forgotten Parisian company producing bronze and wrought iron art deco lighting during the interbellum. The canopy is represented in the 1925-1928 product catalog. In 1935, after the death of monsieur Barbier, the company continued as Corneloup & Cochet. Several years later it permanently closed its doors.

The chandelier holds a nice Degué bowl in thick frosted pressed glass. It is marked Degue France 587 on the rim. And it's marked Negra. A handful unsigned Degué models have marks like Negra or Roc. These are titles and no company names. This negra bowl is the only model Degué made with this obscure name. Almost all these bowls only have the Negra mark. Only once every 5 years I see one with a Degué signature. The nice canopy makes a perfect match with the decoration of the shade. The chandelier has a height of 48,5 cm (19-3/32") with a diameter of 35 cm (13-3/4"). The lamp is in excellent condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the authentic fixture. It's rewired and holds an American standard socket. For other countries I will place a European E27 one.

I'm temporarily unable to ship packages to the USA. Because US customs haven't properly processed the new tariffs, most European shipping companies, including Dutch Post, have temporarily suspended shipping to the USA.
