On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) scarce map "Turkey in Europe".  Offered with original outline colouring.

DATE PRINTED: 1828.  

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 22.5 x 19.5 cm, 8.75 x 7.75 inches (medium) plus margins. 

PROVENANCE:  This antique map was published in 'A Complete and Universal English Dictionary...' by the Rev. James Barclay, Printed for Thomas Kelly, No. 17 Paternoster Row. 1828. A scarce map and edition of which I have been unable to locate any other examples.

ARTIST/ENGRAVER: Engraved by William Milton and published by John Mc Gowan (active 1820's and 1830's).  William Milton (printmaker; British; Male; 1747 - 1790; fl.) suggesting that this plate was already 20+ years old when printed for this publication.  Other plates in this publication were equally dated.  Drawn by Lewis Hebert (this map is not signed but a few others in the series were signed and the style/size are identical).

TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian maps and prints are subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.
