This is a specialist Italian made low voltage downlight fitting that is fully approved for use in

  • Hot air saunas, where ceiling temperatures can exceed 100 °C!
  • Steam rooms, where temperatures can reach 45 °C combined with air that is saturated with water
  • Wet rooms, where hoses at pressure are often used to clean down walls and ceilings
  • Showers, where they can get wet and hot
  • Swimming pools, where they can be placed near the water whereas mains fittings cannot
  • Bathrooms
  • Kitchens, where they are immune to hob heat, fat fumes and the like, even over charcoal grill units in kebab shops!
  • Genuinely made in Italy - buying this supports people in the EU, not the Far East!

This is an industry standard sauna down light, as sold by the biggest EU sauna manufacturer at £125.00 on their website and discounted online from other sauna equipment suppliers at down to £95.60, (they only offer the clear glass type as well!)

But I sell these at only £75.00 for the clear glass one or £79.00 for frosted or blue glass and £85.00 for pink glass, so grab a genuine bargain! I also have the wall boxes and security rings to match.

The prices are for the light shown with the different colour glasses, to see the glass in detail, just select the colour required; if you buy, you will get the light fitting(s) as shown fitted with the selected glass colour. You can also add an anti-theft ring kit which has tamper proof screws that locks against the glass, so preventing it's removal, and a metal wall mounting box intended for setting into solid walls or ceilings.

I have specialised in sauna and steam room electrical equipment for well over 25 years now and stock more types of sauna and steam room lights than anyone else in the EU, a small selection of which will now be listed on eBay, along with listings for the transformers to power them but please see my other listings or the UK sauna-steam website for alternatives if this one does not suit or ask if you want something special, such as sauna strip lights.
This listing includes a lot of detail reflecting the issues which customers have been confused with over the years and I make no apology for that as there is a lot of dis-information out there and it's best to get things right!

What you have here is a stylish recessed downlight featuring a
flat prismatic glass diffuser, designed to take 12v operated halogen capsule lamps up to 20w power rating. It has full EU approvals for use in the hot sauna environment, mounted in wooden structures and is also ideal for use as a steam room downlight; this version of the fitting being best where there is no void space over the ceiling structure.
In a sauna cabin ceiling 20w is an ideal downlight wattage and it can also be used as a wall light. I also stock the spare glass and mounting accessories for them (a metal wall mounting box
for solid walls and a security ring kit).

This light can also be used as a recessed wall light in any environment indoors or outdoors so long as the mounting surface is not too rough for the gasket to make an effective seal. So it's ideal for use as a downlight or low wall light in zone 2 swimming pool type applications, (close to the water)

This is an SELV (safety extra low voltage) 12v operated fitting with a die-cast metal body and moulded glass diffuser featuring a one piece silicone rubber U-seal for the glass and ceiling; (once it is fitted in place all that is visible is the neat "twist-off" glass diffuser against the mounting surface).

Choose between clear glass or ones with frosted or pink glass ribs with a clear central part for a softer more diffuse effect and also blue glass, (but which does not have the central clear section).

This is my standard " down light " as it can be ceiling or wall mounted and multi-use, being rated for saunas, steam rooms, showers, bathrooms, wet rooms and kitchens!

Dimensions:

102mm diameter glass x 14mm thickness (from the mounting surface)
55mm overall depth
86mm diameter mounting hole cut-out

Note 1: Sauna lights must legally have an ambient temperature rating of at least 125 °C and carry an "F" flammable surfaces mark that is valid at their maximum power rating to be allowable and safe to use on the flammable wooden surfaces of a sauna. They must also be made of low heat flow materials such as glass and ceramic and it must be impossible to touch any metal parts; I mention this because the UK has been flooded with a so-called "sauna downlight" imported from Asia which has none of the required approvals and has an exposed metal body that will burn the skin of anyone who touches it in a sauna! (It also has an underwater IP68 rating - I never heard of an underwater sauna - and it is sold as a 50w fitting which is too high a rating for a sauna downlight as the heat gain will be too high, so beware!)
I also see Asian made bulkhead type fittings on sale now which have a painted metal base being promoted for sauna use and the same comments apply to them in that it must be impossible to touch any metal parts; they are cheap certainly, but not approved!
In this regard it is also important to note that if an unapproved light fitting is installed in a sauna and a fire ensues, or someone is hurt, be fully aware that your insurance company will void any resulting claim you may make. For example, I see that plastic surface mounting "sauna lights" are suddenly available on ebay at low cost, but these are unapproved for use in saunas and will melt and could easily catch fire; what price do you put on safety?

Note 2
: When using low voltage halogen lights in a sauna, take note that the power converter or traditional isolating lighting transformer must be mounted outside of the sauna itself, on a non-flammable surface as a rule; electronic power convertors must be fitted within 60 cm of the fitting to comply with EMC emissions regulations which can thus be problematic as they will not take the heat above a sauna, so my view is that it is preferable to use a conventional copper and iron toroidal transformer as these have no EMC issues and can thus be installed at a distance from the light in any convenient spot and because I also sell underwater lights, I stock IP67 and IP68 fully waterproof lighting transformers that are ideal for all applications, in fixed output 50, 100 and 300va ratings or adjustable output 136va and 400va ones.
Hot Air Saunas require special high temperature rated cable for all of the electrical wiring in the cabin which also applies to wiring within the wooden walls and even behind and over the structure; this is a legal statutory requirement of The Wiring Regulations.
(Three
core x
6 sq.cm CSA cable is rated to supply single phase sauna heaters up to 8Kw and two core x 1.5 sq. mm CSA lighting cable can run all the mains or 12v lights you would require in a domestic sauna; both are 180 °C rated SIHF silicone insulated flexible types with a considerable reserve temperature and current rating over the minimum legal requirement of a 150 °C rated traditional rubber type.

Please ask me if you have any technical questions on this item or any aspect of saunas or steam rooms.

Please advise your e-mail address when ordering as this is required by the couriers!

SHIPPING COSTS:

UK: Collection in person is fine for cash payments only

Home delivery In the UK via Royal Mail it's £3.45 for one light plus £1.00 each for additional ones; if you want one delivered quickly, it will be £4.29 plus £2.00 per additional light

Overseas:  message me for an accurate estimate before you purchase, especially if you want two or more. As a guide, to the Republic of Ireland, France  and most nearby EU countries this will be £14.50 via International Signed For Small Packets

NB: 1) These shipping costs details apply to this eBay listing ONLY and are subject to variance as postal or shipping costs can change without notice and any increases will be passed on!

       2) Despite what ebay says, full postal insurance is always included in the shipping cost!

If you purchase more than one selection from my items list, please wait for me to prepare your eBay invoice before paying so that you do not pay excessive postal charges, (adding them to the ebay shopping basket prevents me from doing this).

The small print - but please read it before you bid!

NB: The business has now been trading over 30 years as a trade B2B UK and exporting wholesale supplier and high power electronics design consultancy, so VAT is always extra, where it is applicable, (see below).
NBB: Unlike so many on eBay, I generally do not "drop ship" the items I offer, so the quantities shown are those that are ex-stock here, not at some suppliers that I have done a deal with! (The product images I use are large and detailed and mine, not low resolution ones pulled out of a catalogue or website, which is the usual give-away! The only exception to this being for very large and heavy items that I physically cannot handle here, but if in any doubt please message me about this).

It seems that eBay does not properly understand the UK VAT rules governing domestic and International sales and exports, so I have consulted HM Revenue & Customs on this to obtain detailed clarification, and must always follow their clear advice, which is as follows:

For all eBay auction winners in the UK
 -  VAT at the current UK 20% rate is included in the price shown in a listing

Important note: The VAT registration name and address supplied must tally exactly with the VAT authority records and the registered eBay details.

For all eBay buyers outside of the UK - these are not liable to pay the UK VAT, but will still receive a detailed invoice (without any added VAT).
Overseas winners however may still be liable for local taxes, customs charges or import tariffs outside of my control and knowledge and responsibility; ebay now controls how VAT and other charges are handled.
(Special note for those members in Australia or the USA: Your customs departments are sometimes getting very silly over personal imports and whilst I will supply to the courier all the necessary paperwork, you may now have to send the proof of your purchase(s) and other details to get your goods released, which is your responsibility should it happen).

All overseas bidders must satisfy themselves of the international shipping cost of an item before bidding by checking either at the UK postal website, which may be the cheapest option for small or light items or by messaging me before purchase or placing an auction bid, providing your country, town and postal code.

Shipping costs from the UK to far destinations across the World, to the USA, Japan or Australia for example, will be very high, even for light and non-bulky items, so please check the shipping cost before you bid!

Please also remember that the total cost paid may vary due to changes in currency exchange rates imposed by Banksand that all prices are in £ Sterling (GBP) and not $US or Euros or whatever!

To protect both parties in the transaction, I insist that both the name and the address registered with eBay and the delivery address must be the same. I also need a land line telephone number as all of the courier’s booking systems now require this and it will also help the delivery driver at your door, in case of non-answer, if you can also provide a mobile number as well.
This information will not be retained by me or used for future marketing, or sold on to any other organisation and is solely for shipment use and an aid to buyer protection following past bad experiences which eBay were absolutely no help with!

Also, please be advised that this item will only be despatched via an insured and signed for method, to addresses which are exactly the same as recorded in eBay; I will not send items to a different address, a Post Office box, or care of an unverified business address.

I accept cash if collecting in person, but if the winning bidder wishes to pay via a cheque or by postal order(s) or by a bank transfer then under EU law I legally must accept this, (whatever eBay says), but because of recent problems, my bank has advised me that cheques and postal orders still cannot be regarded as having cleared until at least 10 working days have elapsed since the date I present them over the bank counter, (for a bank transfer this becomes 8 working days for UK transfers and 14 working days for International transfers). Items paid for by cheque, postal order(s) or transfer will thus be sent out on the next available working day following this waiting period, provided the remittance still shows as "cleared funds".

I do not accept wired cash transfers, or respond to attempts to launder money and all such approaches will be immediately reported.

Items are checked and tested before despatch wherever possible and nearly always double box packed with outer energy absorbing packing to minimise the possibility of damage in transit; I use recycled materials if I can and pack as lightly as practical for item protection as part of my contribution towards minimising global warming as more weight in transit uses more fuel.
For International sales, I still double pack the items but try to make the shipped weight and carton size absolutely as low as possible so as to minimise the shipping cost, consistent with preventing items from being damaged in transit.
