This is a signed postcard photo of Pierre Werner (1913-2002),
who served as Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1959 to 1974,
and again from 1979 to 1984, for a total of twenty years.

Werner had previously served as Finance Minister and as
the Minister of Culture. He was a member of the Christian
Social People's Party.

Werner was the chairman of a European committee that drew up
and presented (in 1970) what became known as the "Werner Plan".
This plan presented the basic ideas that ultimately resulted in the
creation of the Eurozone and its currency, the Euro. For this reason,
Werner is often referred to as being the "father of the Euro".

This is a b/w postcard photo, about 6" by 4", in very good condition.

Pierre Werner has signed it in blue ink.

The reverse side of the photo has a purple inkstamp, with the

words "GRAND-DUCHE DE LUXEMBOURG * MINISTERE

D'ETAT ". There is also a small piece of paper glued to the

back, with the following words typed on it:

Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

H.E. Pierre WERNER,

Prime Minister,

Minister of Finance

Also included is a 3" by 4.5" card that states "Avec les

compliments du Ministere d'Etat ".

These items are accompanied by the original envelope

they came in, which is postmarked 1970. The front of

the envelope has the same purple inkstamp as is on

the reverse side of the postcard photo.

These items were purchased from JG Autographs as part

of a large group of items that were signed by politicians
