I designed this boat, along with quite a few others, initially as a traditional plank on frame build to be sold as kits and complete boats. It was very successful but I was getting requests for a simple DIY scratch build version so, it was easily re-designed for the relatively simple Stitch & Tape method of boat building which is ideal for the first time DIY builder. We also built the Stitch & Tape version for a long time until I re-designed it to suit our new kit. The best thing about all of my designs is that they can be built as a rowing/motor dinghy and then add a sail rig later.
The building instructions are easy to read and take you through the build process step by step. No special tools are needed - basically, just a jig saw, pliers, sander and some clamps - and the materials are easily found locally or by mail order. We can supply the epoxy etc or point you in the direction of a supplier in the UK or even if other countries. We can also supply the rowlocks, oars, a sail, rope, blocks, cleats, an outboard, trailer and other items.
This little dinghy is versatile, lightweight, will take a load and performs well on the water. We have one here we use, when we get the chance, to go for a row or motor. It was used to test the rig but we are now building the sailing version as one of our summer boats.
It is relatively easy to build and you can get the hull built in a long weekend and completed in a couple more
Building a boat is a very enjoyable project giving you something to go pottering about on your local water, fishing, rowing to keep fit or motoring off to a secluded picnic site. All you need is a little time and patience. The basic rowing/motor version requires 2 x 6mm sheets (planks, bottom, transom and frame). 12mm ply or solid timber for the seats and solid timber for the trim. The sailing version adds around another 1/2 a sheet of 12mm plus some timber. It also uses a 3kg/ltr epoxy pack, fillet mix and 20m (approx) 100mm fibre glass tape at a cost of around £200 - £300 but you can buy and build in stages as you can afford it.
We estimate 30 - 40 hours work, from start to launch.
The plans are ideal for the first time builder or as a gift for someone who wants to build a boat to prompt them get started.

STANLEY SmallCraft is a business seller. We have been designing, building and repairing small boats for over 30 years and have been building our own, original designs for 20 years. In the past 12 years, we have been selling some of the more popular designs as DIY plans, all over the world.
We have built each design ourselves, several times - some a great many times - using ordinary DIY tools so we can get a better idea of the problems our builders may come across. We are constantly looking for ways to upgrade and improve the plans to make it as easy as we can for you to build from them. We welcome your feedback and always like to see pictures of your finished boat.
We also sell kits, builder packs (epoxy materials etc.), and complete custom built boats, some of which are sold on ebay. Details of everything we do is on our website and more information is sent with your plans.
If after buying you are not completely satisfied with any aspect of our service to you, please contact us before leaving feedback and we will put things right.
