3 Attempt Automatic Generator Control Module

Suitable for single and three phase generators

DESCRIPTION

The Model AECM104FKS is an Automatic Generator Control Module designed to automatically [remotely] or manually start and stop the engine. It will indicate the operational status and fault conditions, automatically shut down the engine and indicate the start engine failure by flashing "START FAIL" LED on the front panel. Other faults are indicated by steady LED

Operation of the module is via 2 pos. toggle switch mounted on the front panel with OFF-ON positions (Local Control).

Wired remote control of the module is via terminal 1.

Wirеlеss control of the module is via кеуfоb (optional).

START

0.5 second after the fuel relay is energised, the 3 attempt start will begin its start sequence: the start relay will energise, feeding battery +ve on terminal 7 to terminal 2 and thence on to the start circuit. The crank period is set for 12 seconds (this time is auto-regulated and may be shorter). If  the engine  has not fired by the end of 1st attempt, the starter is turned off for a 20 sec. period. The sequence will then repeat up to a maximum number of start attempts. Following a successful start, sensed when AC alternator's frequency rises above 30Hz, the crank relay is de-energised and latched out to prevent re-engagement of the starter with the engine running.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The starter relay can only energize for 2nd and 3rd crank cycle if “Low Oil Pressure” is sensed, to confirm that the engine is stationary. This is designed to prevent damage to the starter and ring gear in the event of the control module not sensing that the engine has started (i.e. terminals 11 and 12 are not properly connected to the alternator AC output). Should the engine still fail to start after the maximum number of attempts, “START FAIL” is displayed and the starter is latched out until reset via “Off” position of the toggle switch or via terminal 1 if the engine start was initially made via remote start signal.

Relay outputs are provided for:

  • Fuel Solenoid output (available)
  • Starter motor output (available)
  • Pre-heat output (optional)
  • Load control output (optional)

Configurable inputs are available for:

  • Low Oil Pressure
  • High Engine Temperature
  • Remote Start
  • AC alternator monitor
  • Speed sensor enabler (DIP switch 1)
  • Spare alarm input (emergency stop) to give protection expansion

Multiple alarm channels are provided to monitor the following:

  • Under/Over speed (speed fault). This sensor can be enabled / disabled via DIP switch 1)
  • Low oil pressure
  • High engine temperature
  • Fail to Start
  • Emergency stop button status

The AECM104FKS series modules have been designed for DIN rail / flat surface panel mounting.

OPTION 1.

PRE-HEAT CONTROL

How it works...

(Pre-heat function enabled with a DIP switch 2)

When 10 second pre-heating cycle is timed out and flashing LED  on the module is turned off, the module will begin its start sequence: the fuel solenoid relay is energized feeding bttery +ve on terminal 7 to terminal 5 and thence to the fuel solenoid circuit, the start relay will energize, feeding battery +ve on terminal 7 to terminal 2 and thence on to the start circuit. If the engine has not fired by the end of 1st attempt, the starter is turned off for a resting period. The sequence will then repeat up to a maximum number of start attempts. Following a successful start, sensed when AC alternator's frequency rises above 30Hz, the crank relay is de-energized and latched out to prevent re-engagement of the starter with the engine running.

OPTION 2.

LOAD CONTROL

How it works...

After a successful start, when  engine's  parameters  are  settled  (when 7 sec time delay  provided  by  hold-off  timer is timed out), the  Load  Control  Output will energize and send a signal  from  terminal 10 to an external power relay. This energizes a contactor which will connect the AC alternator output to the load. The run time before accepting load and the run time after relieving load (while generator is still running and is ready to accept the load again if the remote/local start signal is switched back on) are reprogrammable (by us) with a limit of 255 sec [4.25 min] max. (for each timer).

Default warm-up time: 10 sec

Default cool-down time: 10 sec

You can give us your own time settings prior to order.

OPTION 3.

BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR (BVS)

How it works...

The BVS allows the AECM (Automatic Engine Control Module) to start and run the engine when your controlled battery/engine battery is ready to be charged. The BVS monitors two voltage thresholds: Low Voltage Threshold (LVT) and High Voltage Threshold (HVT).When controlled voltage becomes equal to LVT the BVS tells the AECM to start and run the engine until it sees the HVT.

The control module can monitor one of 2 battery voltages:

1. Engine starting battery voltage

2. External battery bank

The user can choose between these 2 batteries by operating the BVS selector button.

The state of the button and the current battery control is shown on the PCB.

This control module comes with following BVS thresholds:

Start the engine @ 11.8 Vdc

Stop the engine @ 13.8 Vdc

Please note: you may re-calibrate these thresholds on-site, or ask us to adjust it precisely before ordering. Free of charge.

HOW TO SET UP THE BVS LOW THRESHOLD

  • Apply emergency stop button to prevent the engine accidental start. Select the external battery control and then connect your discharged (ready to be charged) battery bank to terminals A and B or select the engine battery control to work with engine starting battery voltage.
  • Start turning Pot "L" (very slowly) and find the position when LED "L" changes its state from OFF to ON
  • Stop turning immediately when you notice this change.

HOW TO SET UP THE BVS HIGH THRESHOLD

  • Apply emergency stop button to prevent the engine accidental start. Select the external battery control and then connect your fully charged battery bank to terminals A and B or select the engine battery control
    • Start turning Pot "H" (very slowly) and find the position when LED "H" changes its state from ON to OFF
    • Stop turning immediately when you notice this change.

The accuracy of these adjustments could be as good as ±0.1

    Option 4.

    wirеlеss control

    How it works...

Toggle Switch is in OFF position. Terminal 1 (wired remote start is unused).

Make sure there are no metal doors/walls/other metal shields between you and controlled generator as these objects can significantly reduce the working distance between the transmitter (key fob) and controlled generator. Press "A" button for 1 sec. The generator should try to start within a few seconds.

    Press "B" button to stop.

The кеуfоb may come without battery due to shipping restrictions, please fit type 23A 12v battery.
