Arctic circle Soviet Army soldier authentic ushanka.
Authentic, very rare Soviet Army soldier ushanka, with longer length ear-flaps. The wool top of these hats acts as water resistant shell. The nature of the fabric is such that it very slowly absorbs moisture, and once wet it becomes almost impenetrable to water. When it gets wet, it does not let moister in, therefore even when it was raining, a Soviet Army soldier's head stayed dry and warm.
These hats were worn by soldiers of the Soviet Army, who served in cold - northern areas, usually inside the
Arctic Circle.
Relatively few people live north of the Arctic Circle due to the Arctic climate. The three largest communities above the Arctic Circle are in Russia: Murmansk (population 325,100), Norilsk (135,000), and Vorkuta (85,000).
These ushanka hats were manufactured in Soviet Union, dated 1980's.
They were designed to handle extreme cold weather conditions.

How to measure your head
Wrap a measuring tape around head, 1.5 cm (5/8 in.) above eyebrows and ears.
If you don't have a tape measure, use a string and then measure the string. Read the measurement in centimetres or inches,
add 2 cm or 0.8 inch to the measurement,
and compare with the size chart.
If a result in between 2 sizes, go to the larger size.

An Ushanka (also known as Trapper hat, Bomber hat, Shapka, Chapka etc.) is a traditional, yet stylish, Russian winter hat with ear flaps, which is extremely warm to handle the frigid Russian winters. It has ear flaps, which can be folded up and tied at the top of the hat, or tied at the chin.
