You're bidding on "The 'Lightning Express' Trains - Leaving The Junction", a large - 31 1/2" X 22 1/2" total size - handcolored lithographic print. Markings indicate 1864 publication by Currier & Ives, but there's a "No. 1018" catalog number at center edge of the bottom margin. This doesn't match any of the provenance I could find on large folio original Currier & Ives editions of this print, so I believe what we have here is a circa 1940s collotype reproduction by Andres Inc.
This NYC-based printmaker did fine collotype editions of twenty of the Currier & Ives "best" prints circa 1943. Collotype is a lithographic reproduction process that is able to produce finely detailed images without the dot matrixing of other print processes. The Andres prints are also handcolored, making them very difficult to differentiate from the originals.
NOTE some issues of condition - mainly, matting burn and some age toning. Residual glue from past overmatting in the margins. Print is also matted to backboard, possibly as published. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.
Retains good color and appeal, though, and should improve in new framing/matting. Maybe the next best option if you don't want to drop five figures on the real deal, lol.
Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
