Vintage Trappist Tre Fontane Abby Rome Catacomb Relic Spina Christi Seed Rosary


 This very handsome 22 1/2" old rosary came from the Pater Patres Trappisti (Trappist Monks) at the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane (Three Fountains Abby) in Rome. 


The crucifix is inlaid with black wood and the back reads "P.P. Trappisti" and "Tre Fontane  Roma". If you remove the little knurled screw at the bottom, it opens up to reveal "Terre Catacombarum" (earth from the Catacombs).  The oval  centerpiece has the the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart of Jesus. 


The beads are brown Spina Christi seeds. The thorny Spina Christi is said to be the type of plant from which the Crown of Thorns was made.

It is in good preowned condition and I have not polished the metal. I have included a zippered rosary pouch.  Please see all the pictures for finer detail on condition and ask any questions that might be helpful.
