Large handmade Ethiopian Orthodox wooden religious icon dating from the 1970s. The triptych-style icon features a central Crucifixion scene, with Mary and the Christ Child shown in the upper section and additional religious figures and saints across the hinged side panels. Painted in a bold Ethiopian icon style with vivid red, blue, green, ochre and black detailing, the piece has a distinctive elongated form and decorative patterned borders. It measures approximately 48 cm by 17 cm and makes an eye-catching addition to a collection of Ethiopian Christian art, religious icons or African cultural objects.
