A beautifully coordinated vintage Japanese Satsuma tea set consisting of four cups, a creamer and five matching saucers.
Each cup features a different Japanese landscape. The scenes include waterside villages, traditional buildings and pagodas, flowering trees, wooded hills, and sailboats on calm blue water. Soft blue, green, pink, and warm earth tones give each cup its own view while keeping the set cohesive.
The creamer depicts Mount Fuji beyond a blue waterside landscape, with flowering branches and trees wrapping around its rounded body. A gold-tone handle, spout, and lid accents complement the black-and-gold border used throughout the set.
The saucers continue the panoramic scenery with Mount Fuji in the distance, lakes and shorelines in the foreground, and details such as boats, bridges, trees, and village buildings. Their broad surfaces make the landscape artwork especially striking when the cups are lifted.
The warm ivory ground features fine age-related crazing, giving the set the softly antiqued appearance often associated with Satsuma-style pottery. Deep brown geometric borders and gold-painted rims frame each scene, while the cups feature sculptural gilt handles and complementary floral decoration.
Ideal for:
Because of the extensive crazing, interior discoloration, unknown glaze composition, and cracked handle on one cup, this set is best suited for decorative display or careful collection rather than regular food service.
