Montreal, Quebec - CANADA - Westmount Park - 1916:  Westmount Park in 1916 was a mature, beautifully landscaped suburban sanctuary established nearly two decades prior as part of Westmount's visionary Victorian-era planning.
Park Layout and Features in 1916
-  Natural Design: Built along 30 acres of former farmland, the park featured a naturalistic, winding stream and lagoon system mirroring nineteenth-century landscape traditions.
-  Mature Foliage: Pathways were lined with American Basswood-Lindens near Melbourne Avenue, alongside massive heritage oak trees near the water.
-  Civic Integration: The park sat directly adjacent to the Westmount Public Library, which opened in 1899 as Quebec's first free public library.
Municipal Milestones Around 1916
-  Planning Innovation: In 1916, the City of Westmount became the very first municipality in Canada to establish a local Architectural and Planning Committee to protect its urban environment.
-  Suburban Growth: The surrounding area was celebrated as a healthy, verdant Victorian suburb on the slopes of Mount Royal, deliberately insulated from Montreal's dense industrial core.
