For sale is a Bio-Rad T100 Thermal Cycler, 96-well PCR thermal cycler with color touchscreen and gradient capability.
This unit was removed from a laboratory environment and has been tested for basic operation. It powers up properly, boots to the operating interface, and successfully passes its built-in self-test. The instrument's About screen reports an exceptionally low 277 total operating hours.
The Bio-Rad T100 is a standard 96-well PCR thermal cycler designed for routine nucleic acid amplification. Bio-Rad specifies capacity for 96 x 0.2 mL tubes, 0.2 mL tube strips, or one 96-well plate, a temperature range of 4–100°C, maximum ramp rate of 4°C/sec, and gradient operation from 30–100°C. It incorporates a 5.7-inch color touchscreen and USB port for protocol management.
Bio-Rad lists the T100 as a conventional PCR thermal cycler with a 96-well block; I would not select "Real-Time Thermal Cycler/qPCR System" in the eBay item specifics, even though eBay sometimes associates that category with this model.
The unit was powered on and allowed to complete its startup sequence. We accessed the touchscreen interface, system information, system log, and built-in diagnostic function.
The built-in self-test completed successfully and displayed "Self-Test passed."
The unit reports 277 total hours run.
We did not perform an actual PCR reaction, verify temperature accuracy with calibrated external instrumentation, or perform any laboratory calibration.
Upon startup, the unit displays:
"Battery low. Needs replacement. Date/time will be lost and power failure protection will not function."
The instrument otherwise boots and passes its self-test. Bio-Rad documentation identifies the internal battery as a 3V CR2477N lithium coin cell. Bio-Rad notes that the instrument can still perform runs with the battery depleted, although the date/time will reset and the power-failure Resume feature will not function until the battery is replaced.
Battery replacement will be the responsibility of the buyer.
