A beautiful German solid 800 silver potpourri or lavender box. It is hallmarked with the German crescent moon and crown mark, the 800 standard mark and a makers mark. I would date it to c1890's. It has been beautifully made being in the form of a cello decorated with cherubs. It would have sat of a dressing table or desk and held lavender or such like with the scent being able to escape through the f-holes. It is in super condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs, the inside is clean and gilded. It measures approx. 4.75 inches (12cm) long by 1.5 inches (4cm) wide and weighs 28 grams. A very high quality example.
