DESCRIPTION

A vintage Indo-Persian all-steel ceremonial axe known as a tabar, probably manufactured during the first half of the 20th century in the region of present-day Iran or northern India for a decorative or ceremonial use. The symmetrical crescent-shaped steel blade is decorated with etched Islamic inscriptions and ornamental motifs. The heavy steel shaft is likewise decorated with etched patterns and terminates in a spearhead-shaped point.

CONDITION

The item is in used vintage condition with signs of age and overall wear. The blade is slightly bent near the bottom, and the head would benefit from an additional wedge between the eye and the shaft for a more secure fit. The upper corner of the blade has a small chip.
