Antique Stoneware Flagon - The Champion Public House, 13 & 15 Weymouth Terrace, Hackney Rd, London

Thomas Leigh was the Licensed Victualler of the Champion Public House from 1880-1883. The address was 13 & 15 Weymouth Terrace, Hackney Road, Shoreditch.

The Champion was historically a modest public house licensed only for beer and cider. It served hard working local labourers, railway workers and dockers who wanted an affordable pint after a long shift in East London's industrial neighbourhood.

It was demolished in 2012 to be replaced by residential flats.  Prior to its demolition, the building had ceased trading as a pub in 1995 and briefly operated as a shop.

This lovely and very small flagon made by Doulton is a piece of London’s Public House History. 

It’s missing it’s handle and there is chip underneath DOULTON, with some wear. The T in The has worn away and part of the h.  Stands proud at approx. 13.7 cm.
