Vintage c1960 Scottish Sterling Silver Cobalt Blue Enamel Heraldic Cufflinks by Malcolm Gray Ortak

A superb pair of vintage Scottish sterling silver cufflinks by Malcolm Gray, founder of the celebrated Orkney jewellery company Ortak, dating to approximately the 1960s–1970s. These elegant double-sided cufflinks combine rich cobalt blue vitreous enamel with finely executed heraldic silverwork, reflecting the strong mid-century Scandinavian and Celtic influences that helped define Ortak’s early production.

Each oval panel is decorated with a raised heraldic shield beneath a stylised crest or helm motif, rendered in crisp silver relief against a luminous deep cobalt enamel ground. The enamel is particularly striking, displaying excellent clarity and depth of colour with a glass-like reflective surface that catches the light beautifully. The restrained geometric silver borders and classic chain-link fittings give the cufflinks a refined architectural quality typical of high-quality post-war British silver design.
