This nifty cover(envelope is pretty clean, with few creases around its edges; back flap is intact, but has a tear in it caused when the mail was first opened) has a fascinating history behind it! It was sent on February 24, 1878-1882, from Santa Fe(a superb CDS, and partial, fancy cancel!), New Mexico Territory, to a Mrs. C.G. Prince, Flushing, New York! The sender was then-Chief Justice of the New Mexico Territory Supreme Court, L. Bradford Prince! The addressee was his mother, Charlotte Goodwin Prince! L. Bradford Prince's father, William Robert Prince, had been a well-known horticulturist, etc.! From the death of his father, William Prince(1842), until just before the start of the Civil War, William Robert Prince ran the renamed, Linnaean Botanical Garden that his father had founded(built from what had been a mostly commercial nursery of William Robert Prince's grandfather) in Flushing! As for the 3-Cent, "Washington," it has some minor stains around some perfs, but is in very good-fine condition, overall! Noted imperfections aside, this cover remains an uncommon, interesting piece of New Mexico Territory and New York postal history connected to a pioneer in frontier justice, L. Bradford Prince, and the well-known William Robert Prince Family of Flushing!
