The man featured on the plate is General Henri Guisan (1874–1960).

- National Icon: He is widely remembered as a hero in Switzerland for effectively organizing the Swiss military to deter a potential invasion by Nazi Germany.
- The "Redoubt" Strategy: He famously developed the Swiss National Redoubt strategy, which involved utilizing Switzerland's mountainous Alpine terrain to set up highly fortified, defensible positions
Paul Kramer refers to a prominent Swiss medal-making company, Maison Paul Kramer, which was established in Neuchâtel, Switzerland in 1917
