The box has a small crack on one side but it is very attractive. I have not cleaned it or anything. When I saw this at a yard sale I was hoping there was a vintage guitar tuner inside ha ha. There are two decks of puppy theme playing cards both complete with Jokers. According to the underside of the box lid they are Cruver Plastic Playing cards. and they are top quality. Were not in order so had to be used but look it only slightly at most, you could easily use there for a penny ante poker game and nobody would complain. I think someone was playing canasta, whatever their game I separated the two decks and counted them but didn't put them in order. Box is better quality than most used for such products so I suspect it was a presentation gift for company employees and customer.

The Wickes Company started as a general iron foundry and spun off the Boiler works into a separate firm. I don't know what year that was, but the cards look post-war and likely 1950's to me. They sold that boiler plant in 1959 so they aren't going to be newer. I found little of any kind of souvenirs regarding this business available anywhere. Any former employees would be in their mid-80's or older but if your dad or granddad is one of them I bet they would get a big kick out of these cards.
