About This Label: This antique rare, authentic vintage Cuban cigar box inner label (vista) titled "HABANA",
dates back to the late 19th or early 20th century. Lithographed inner cigar box label (vista de caja de puros).
Produced in Havana, Cuba, by "Litog. Compañía Litográfica de la Habana", as noted by the tiny printer signature
visible on the bottom right margin. Historical Significance: The late 1800s to early 1900s marked the golden age of
tobacco lithography in Cuba. Allegorical Imagery - Map of Cuba: Placed prominently at the top, the geographical
map displays major 19th-century provinces, shipping routes, and ports like La Habana, Cárdenas, Puerto Príncipe,
and Bayamo. Two Indigenous Figures: The scene depicts two idealized indigenous Taino women wearing
feathered crowns, vibrant garments, and coral necklaces. In late Victorian-era advertising, indigenous maidens were
frequently used as romanticized allegorical symbols to represent the fertile, untamed natural beauty of the New World
and the native origins of premium tobacco. The figures sit amid freshly harvested tobacco bales and bundles of
dried leaves, framing the bottom ribbon inscribed with the name HABANA.
