Scarce and visually appealing 1895 antique Catalogue of Fashions for Summer 1895 published by The Butterick Publishing Co. and specially advertising Daniels & Fisher of Denver, Colorado. Measuring approximately 8 x 11 inches and running about 40 pages plus additional advertising leaves, this substantial Victorian-era fashion catalog is packed with hundreds of engraved illustrations of period garments, dress patterns, waists, skirts, children’s clothing, men’s and boys’ fashions, doll clothing, millinery items, sewing accessories, and domestic advertisements.
The catalog represents a remarkable snapshot of late-19th-century American fashion and home sewing culture during the height of the Butterick pattern empire. Daniels & Fisher — one of Denver’s best-known historic department stores — is prominently printed on the front cover as the local agent, giving the piece strong Colorado and Western retail history appeal in addition to fashion interest.
Illustrated throughout with dense pages of Victorian clothing designs including ladies’ gowns, cycling outfits, shirt waists, corsets, boys’ suits, infant garments, dolls’ patterns, and accessories. There are also fascinating period advertisements for sewing implements, scissors, books, pamphlets, magazines, soap, and household publications. Particularly attractive are the pages devoted to dressmaker tools and Butterick cutlery.
Condition is generally good for age with expected edge wear, toning, light staining, corner wear, and handling from use. Some chipping and small losses to cover edges and corners. Interior pages remain quite displayable with strong graphics and extensive content. A wonderful reference piece for fashion historians, costume designers, theatrical wardrobe departments, genealogy researchers, or collectors of Victorian ephemera and Colorado department store history.
Authentic period piece related to family, history or local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition. Vintage or Antique.
