This is a nifty, stampless, transatlantic, business cover(outside of some staining around its edges, pretty clean, but with the usual folds, and a few tears, including a small section removed) with a complete letter in French! It was sent during the Crimean War by someone with Laetraise & Fauche on November 21, 1854, from New York City, New York, U.S., to Messrs. H. Verzier & Company, Lyon, France! The sender was in the business of importing high end jewelry, etc., from Europe! It was sent through London's Charing Cross P.O. on December 5, 1854, before crossing over the English Channel(a neat, French paquebot CDS!) on the 6th. It arrived in Paris(a pretty good, transit CDS!) on 12/6/1854, and was sent via train to Lyon(a great, transit CDS!) that same day. While the initial amount of 8-French Centimes was marked as the amount due for postage for delivering this mail, that doubled to 16 French Decimes, likely due upon arrival in Lyon. Noted imperfections aside, this remains a neat piece of stampless, transatlantic mail sent between NYC, U.S., and France in 1854!
