This nifty, green, 1-Cent, U.S. postal stationery envelope: U355(has some stains, and minor wear and tear around its edges; back flap is intact!) was sent on May 8, 1903, from San Francisco(a neat, machine cancel!), California, to a Messrs. Takata & Company, Tokyo, Japan, per the S.S. Doric! The sender was with the J.K. Armsby Company, a growing distributor of preserved foods, and forerunner to the Del Monte brand! Messrs. Takata & Company (Takata Shokai) was a premier Japanese trading and contracting firm founded by Shinzo Takata. In the 1900s (Meiji period), it served as a key purchasing agent for the Japanese government, supplying critical iron, steel, military hardware, and heavy electrical machinery during the Russo-Japanese War, and the era of industrial modernization! Noted imperfections aside, this cover remains a neat, unique piece of American and Japanese postal history!
