This is an original large bronze portrait medal of Admiral Togo Heihachiro, produced by the Japan Mint Bureau in Showa 9 (1934).

Comes with the original presentation case.

Inside the case are the markings:

“Mint Bureau Senyukai”
and a commemorative stamp reading:

“Mint Bureau Visit Memorial 10.4.19”

which appears to commemorate a Mint Bureau visit or official viewing event held on April 19, Showa 10 (1935).

The front side features a detailed portrait of Admiral Togo Heihachiro with the inscription:

“Marshal Admiral, Senior First Rank, Grand Cordon, Marquis Togo Heihachiro”

along with the artist signature:

“Made by Hata Masakichi.”

The reverse side bears the famous quote associated with the Battle of Tsushima during the Russo-Japanese War:

“The fate of the Empire depends upon this battle. Let every man do his utmost.”

(皇国興廃在此一戦 各員一層奮励努力)

Additional inscriptions include:

“October, Showa 9 (1934)”
and
“Produced by the Mint Bureau.”

Admiral Togo is one of the most iconic figures in Japanese naval history.
As commander of the Japanese fleet during the 1905 Battle of Tsushima, he became internationally famous after defeating the Russian Baltic Fleet.
