Regular-grade
epidote may exhibit minor chips and/or a few minor surface scratches;
however, the overall surface texture and condition, as well as the
quality of origin, are key factors. This grade of epidote displays a
multi-faceted texture, excellent light reflection, and the uniqueness
characteristic of each individual epidote crystal. Epidote of this shape
and grade can be used to craft jewelry or lattice crystals.
Known
as the cosmic fall of an emerald, Moldavite is a type of tektite
(meteorite) with a Mohs hardness ranging from 5.5 to 6.5. This asteroid
impacted Earth during the Miocene to Late Miocene epochs, striking the
site now known as the Ries crater in Bavaria (Germany). From a
geological perspective, the Miocene epoch (approximately 16 to 11.5
million years ago) marked the period when South America drifted westward
to its current position, the Andes Mountains continued to form, and
many continents migrated to their current boundary terrains. Material
ejected from the impact entered the atmosphere and cooled into molten
glass, which is now known as Moldavite. The main splash zone where
molten crystals returned to Earth is located in South Bohemia (Czech
Republic). Moldavite has not been found in any other region on Earth.
Rachtrilite
inclusions are tiny fused silica that are carried up from the ground
during impacts and melt into the material. Rachtrilite inclusions are
visible under a magnifying glass at about 40x, and all faceted Moravian
stones have inclusions. Any rough Moravian stone with even a small
fragment of debris, that is, all Moravian stones except museum-grade
Moravian stones, have observable inclusions. The cost of purchasing a
handheld smartphone microscope is lower than most decent, medium-sized
Moravian stones, and it is a good way to start thinking about where
these crystals come from and what they saw on their way to Earth.
The item you received is precisely the one depicted in the picture. This item is a tiny fragment of MOLDAVITE, which has been artificially heated, melted, and refined. However, due to its artificial processing, it is classified as an artificial glass meteorite. Therefore, it is a processed artificial MOLDAVITE
