Vintage black and white U.S. Navy photograph capturing the Japanese battleship Musashi (Yamato-class) under active aerial attack during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, October 24, 1944.
The image shows Musashi in the Sibuyan Sea as she undergoes a simultaneous bombing and torpedo attack carried out by aircraft from USS Enterprise (CV-6), Air Group 20, with visible bomb splashes and impact plumes surrounding the vessel.
Musashi, one of the largest battleships ever constructed, was sunk later that day following repeated air strikes. This photograph documents a critical moment during one of the most significant naval engagements of World War II.
Reverse includes official U.S. Navy caption detailing the attack, location, participating task groups, and engagement date.
